Cowboys Struggle for Balance in Their Offense

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers 23-13 in a game that highlighted weaknesses on both sides of the ball, but particularly on offense. Despite having a fully healthy and talented lineup known as ‘GOTI’ or Greatest Offense There Is, the team scored only 29 points across the past two games. Following the game, quarterback Dak Prescott expressed frustration about the lack of execution. ‘We have a great process. We practice the right way. We’re just not executing what we need to win games,’ Prescott stated, emphasizing that while the defense played well enough to win, the offense failed to support them.

Offensive woes included Prescott throwing two interceptions and averaging only 4.8 yards per attempt. His turnovers, particularly two throws to CeeDee Lamb who slipped on one, proved costly. Prescott explained the opposing defensive strategy, noting, ‘They know the guys that we have. They’re going to get back, make us throw underneath and make tackles.’ This strategy forced the Cowboys to alter their play, leaning on short passes and yards after the catch.

Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys’ coach, pinpointed a lack of a running game as a key issue. The team’s 48 yards on 15 carries against the Packers underscored a season-long struggle, marking their fifth game this year without reaching 100 yards rushing. ‘Because of the lack of a running game, we’re a little bit one-sided and the best way to be on offense as a unit is to have balance. So we have to find balance,’ Schottenheimer explained, noting the combination of missed opportunities from players and coaching. Prescott, although taking significant pressure and hits, indicated he was just ‘a little sore’ but deemed himself okay. The team remains committed to improving, as they seek to break a poor start trend and aim for a playoff spot.
